AIR Shillong Anniversary




All India Radio Shillong was founded on this day 1st July 1948. The oldest Radio Station in the North East.

All India Radio (AIR) Shillong today celebrated its 71st Foundation day. It was On this day in the year 1948 when AIR Shillong Station started its services. The formal inauguration of Station was done by the Governor of Assam Sir Akbar Haydari in the presence of the Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi in Shillong when Shillong was the erstwhile Capital of Assam at that time.


AIR Shillong is currently a full-fledged Regional Station airing wide-ranging programmes including news bulletins also. AIR Shillong broadcast program in three primary dialects of Meghalaya i.e. Khasi, Garo and Jaintia accordingly including English as well Hindi language.

The Station Programme Zone covered Whole of Meghalaya and bordering States. The North East News at 8:30 am in English originates from Regional News Unit of AIR Shillong was relayed by all the State Capital Capital Stations in North East including Sikkim.

On this occasion A Tree Plantation drive and cultural programmes will be organised in the Station premises on 2nd July 2018 at 10 am and 3 pm respectively...
