Upen Tarafdar, former radio newsreel producer of Kolkata, former Station Director of AIR Rampur, Najibabad, Siliguri and former Chief Producer of DDK Kolkata, has passed away on 14th January after a short illness. He was 84. Tarafdar did commendable job as newsreel producer during Bangladesh war, he covered 'muktijuddha' for AIR across the border and recorded the swearing in ceremony of the first Bangladesh government. He had been a household name in Bengal when he used to produce Bengali newsreel of AIR Kolkata. The Governor of West Bengal Mr J. Dhankhad visited Akashvani Bhawan when the body of Tarafdar was brought there for last glimpse of his junior colleages. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed condolences over the death of the veteran radio journalist.
