It is a well known fact that, though radio broadcast started in a private clubs at Mumbai and Culcutta, public broadcast started in Mysuru by Dr. M.V.Gopalaswamy from his residence on 10.09.1935, named "AKASHVANI" and later on accepted by Government of India.
Accordingly, it has now completed 85 years and 85th Annual Day was celebrated at All India Radio, Mysuru. Due to Pandemic Corona Virus, the celebration was restricted to the staff members by maintaining social distance while participating and sharing their experiences and valuable memories. Sri. S.Subramanya, Programme Executive, welcomed the staff and initiated the discussion with memories of platinum jubilee celebration of AIR, Mysuru held during 2010. Sri. Umesh S.S., ADP & Head of Office who presided over the programme thanked all the members of the staff and listeners for continued support in planning and production of variety of new programmes inspite of ongoing pandemic situation. Our listenership also is expanding in all directions, networks including web media. AIR, Mysuru captured remarkable audience during past six months in spite of covid 19 and also extended assistance to the needy by providing ration kits, medical assistance, counselling etc., in association with listeners club. He also remembered various programme activities of the station since its inception. Smt. Mysore M. Rajalakshmi, Instrumentalit shared her experience since 1975 as a participating artist and later on as staff and remembered many invited audience programmes, Live programmes and association of different famous music artists with AIR, Mysuru. Almost all the members exchanged their happiness, views and opinion on AIR, Mysuru as a cherishable memory and concluded the function by deciding to celebrate Annual Day of Akashvani, Mysuru every year.
