Local and international artists including Mandolin Sisters, Jyotsna Srikanth, Apache Indian & Dubmatix to add to the impressive lineup of music performances
Chennai, November 23rd, 2017: The Sixth Edition of IndiEarth XChange - India’s definitive trade event for independent music, film and media - is all set to take place in Chennai starting tomorrow. The three-day (24th – 26th November 2017) music, film & media annual trade event provides a professional platform for independent artists, where world industry representatives, venue owners, media labels, musicians and independent filmmakers can connect to showcase their work and network for future growth. The three-day extravaganza will also feature vibrant musical performances and film screenings, workshop sessions and panel discussions from well-acclaimed local and international artists as well as filmmakers and industry professionals.
Commenting on the eve of the festival, founder of IndiEarth XChange and CEO – EarthSync India - Sonya Mazumdar says “Diversity is the USP of XChange - it’s a space where we bring together musicians, filmmakers, Media, industry delegates from around the world, a whirlwind of creative energy working together to forge new pathways and global networks. By working together is how we can really hope to bring about real changes in the industry”.
Day 1 of the XChange will kick off with the screening of Liberation Day - nominated the best Nordic documentary of 2016 directed by Ugis Olte & Morten Traavik. The evening will be filled with performances from India and beyond borders with world renowned violinist Jyotsna Srikanth, charismatic Jazz trio Steak from France, and Four-time winner of the Music of the Indian Ocean prize Maya Kamaty.
Day 2 also promises excitement - beginning with the screening of RB Singh’s critically acclaimed short film Two Brothers. Swiss documentary Where The Elephant Sleeps is a unique look at the politics of euthanasia amongst infected elephants in India, directed by Brigitte Uttar Kornetzky – offering an interesting perspective on wildlife conservation. The evening will feature British / Indian ragga / dub artist Apache Indian taking the stage. There will also be performances from the likes of Carnatic duo Mandolin Sisters. Korean psychedelic / experimental act Songjang Bul Le (Burying Beetle) will also be making their first ever appearance in India. Young and charismatic Indian bands like Black Letters, Blushing Satellite and rap sensation Prabh Deep will be on the list of performers as well.
The final day of the XChange features the screening of Leena Manimekalai’s acclaimed documentary ‘Is It Too Much To Ask’. The film screenings on the day close with the Malaysian entry for the 89th Academy Awards Redha, directed by Tinku Mona Riza. The evening will feature music performances from local Chennai music independent artists including Bjorn Surrao’s Band and Staccato. The festivities will finally wrap up with the after party featuring Indian electronica act Oceantied, Canadian DJ Dubmatix - one of Canada’s premier dub, reggae and electro artists/producers - and leading Australian DJ/producerMr. Bill, known for his production expertise.
A learning Experience:
XChange’s Workshop Program this year – an initiative under the EarthSync Academy - offers master classes and discussions with global industry professionals, and includes several engaging sessions – including a workshop with renowned producer Mr Bill known worldwide for his Ableton tutorials; aDocumentary Film Master Class with filmmaker Harold Monfils; Voice Workshop: Vocal Tips, Tricks & Techniques with Australian musician/educator Kristina Kelman; Ideas & Tools For Bands Using Ableton Live with Israeli producer Yoav Rosenthal; Pre Production Songwriting: Writing Songs For The Studio with Australian producer/musician Dan Pratt), an official Pioneer DJ workshop titled Pioneer DJ: Hybring DJing with turntablist/producer DJ Skip; andNative Instruments: Komplete Kontrol Interactive Demo with musician/producer Vivin Kuruvilla. The workshops take place on 25th November, 2017 and 26th November, 2017.
