All India Radio, Port Blair RNU celebrates 43rd anniversary on 01.07.2018.


The Regional News Unit of All India Radio, Port Blair celebrated its 43rd anniversary on Sunday. Mr. T.Shanmugaraju, Deputy Director, Mr. Rakesh Chander Lal, News Reader-cum-Translator, Mr Nilesh Kumar Kalbhor, Deputy Director (M&C), Press Information Bureau, Port Blair, Mr Dev Das participated in the celebration. In his address, Mr T. Shanmugaraju describe the role of Akashvani here, which has served the islanders here through admirable innovations for the past 42 years. "Despite challenges, all staff of AIR here contributed to script a success story for Akashvani," he said. Mr Nilesh spoke on the importance of radio particularly during disasters. "Radio is a medium of communication that had played a significant role, providing tireless service to thousands of islanders here during natural disasters like cyclones, tsunami etc," he said.

Mr. Rakesh Chander Lall said that All India Radio, Port Blair, started services back in 1975 with just one news bulletin. Today, AIR broadcasts two news bulletins of 10 minute duration daily. Besides, interview based programmes, Parikrima, Sound Bite programme etc have become extremely popular among radio listeners here. It is the reach and impact of All India Radio for which the Prime Minister chose this medium for 'Mann Ki Baat' programme to reach out to people, he added. The president of Andaman Nicobar Media Federation, Mr K Ganeshan, Editor of local daily, Aspect, Mr SP Ellango and Mr Basudeb Das congratulated the All India Radio team on the occasion.
