Obituary - G Panduranga Rao retired ASD, DDK Chennai passed away


G Panduranga Rao, affectionately called as GPR, retired ASD of DDK Chennai Doordarshan,aged 76, passed away on 11.05.2019. 


He was initially an announcer in AIR Pondicherry and joined DDK Chennai as Production Assistant when DD Chennai was commissioned in August 1975. Later he became Producer and he retired as Assistant Station Director of DDK Chennai. He was well known DD producer, producing hundreds of plays which were telecast every Tuesday then. The three letter alphabets- GPR- appeared at the end of the play is mesmerized word for the lakhs of viewers. One of his famous plays he produced was Chanakya Sabatham, an adaptation of Stage Play of National Theatres owned by Nataga Kavalar late R S Manohar. It is still an important archives of Doordarshan. Another one is Thirumalai Naickar play he produced in association with Heron Ramasamy, which is an archives of Doordarshan. Every social plays like Sayankala Uravugal, Mezhugu Bommai he produced have no negative messages and all are family melodramas.
