Six state cricket teams for Women’s Premier League


Women’s cricket teams from six states will participate in the Women’s Premier League- 2018 being organized by the Vile Parle Cultural Centre (VPCC) and sportsnasha.com, with support from the Women’s Cricket Association of India (WCAI) at various venues in the city from March 6 to 8, 2018.
WCAI is headed by Mrs Rani Sharma and the Hon Secretary is Mss Nutan Gavaskar Natu, ex-Mumbai player and sister of Sunil Gavaskar.
Keeping in mind the need to boost women’s cricket at the grass root level, this tournament over 20 overs will be played on a league basis, with the top two teams qualifying for the final.
The six teams participating in the event are Chandigarh Chandnees,  UK Divas (Uttarakhand), Maharashtra Master Blasters, West Bengal Wonder Girls, MP Magicians and UP Shernees.
The league matches will be played on 6th and 7th March at Mahim Juvenile Club ground and BMC ground at Shivaji Park, Dadar. The final will be played at MIG Cricket Club Bandra East, Mumbai on 8th March.  This would be a first of its kind invitation tournament involving teams from various states at venues in Mumbai.The concept is now becoming a reality with the support of Mrs. Shweta Shalini and  Mrs Jyoti Alavani, Municipal Corporator. The tournament is being sponsored by Optimum Nutrition.

Vile Parle Cultural Centre – (VPCC), promoted by Shri Parag Alawani, MLA and Mrs. Jyoti Alawani, Corporator,  has been in the forefront of organizing various sports and cultural activities. VPCC has been organising the grand sports carnival Parle Mahotsav for the last two decades, with 50,000 plus participants each year. The Parle Mahotsav conducts more than 35 sporting events in the sports carnival held in December every year at Vile Parle and gives awards to one thousand plus participants every year. The VPCC’s Parle Mahotsav is one of the biggest grass root sports events in the country where teams from all over India participate. It’s a mini Olympics for grass root sports, where the minimum age for participants is one year and max age is 80+.

SPORTSNASHA was launched two years back by star hockey player Dhanraj Pillay with a unique concept to promotes young  or unsung sportsmen by awarding them, sponsoring them, sharing important knowledge on sports related issues  and giving visibility to their performance. Bringing back the glory of unsung stars is also the main objective of the website which has been digital partners of many grassroots sports events. Sportsnasha also awards six young sportsmen every year and encourage them to keep playing and make career.
The opening ceremony of the tournament will be held at Dubhashi Ground, Vile Parle East on 5th  March- at 6 PM in gracious presence of Veermata Anuradha Gore ji (whose son has been a martyr on battle field) , Mr. Yajurvindra Singh ji (a world record holder of most catches in Test cricket and ex-MD Wisden, England), and Ms. Sai Tamhankar , a famous Marathi Actress.  Other dignitaries include Mrs. Shweta Shalini, Mr, Parag Alavani, MLA, Mrs. Jyoti Alavani, corporator and other eminent persons in the field of sports. All the teams from six states will be welcomed in this ceremony.
The closing ceremony and prize distribution will be held in presence of  Mrs.Amruta Fadnavis ji and famous Bollywood director Mr. Madhur Bhandarkar ji at MIG Bandra on 8 th March at 3 PM.
The winners, runner up ,woman of the match awards and best player, best batsman as well best fielder of the tournament will be given trophies plus cash awards.
