Laxmi Agarwal, Surveen Chawla, Kirti Kharbanda, Urvashi Rautela, Manjiri Phadnis, Angad Bedi rule the ramp on day 2 of Bombay Times Fashion Week
Mumbai, 31st March, 2018: ExtraordiNaari, Narendra Kumar, Myraid, Cerez, Rina Dhaka/Poonam Saini, set apart the second day of Bombay Times Fashion Week on Saturday, 31st March 2018 at St. Regis Hotel. The day commenced with a strong social message by acid attack survivors, and ended with a power packed performance of Michael Jackson's 'staying alive' catwalk by the trope of glamor.
Blending glamour with purpose, collection ExtraordiNaari put together by Viviana Mall, highlighted the dangerous impact that easy availability of acids has on the society.Extraordinaire acid attack survivors along with showstopper, Laxmi Agarwal, survivor, renowned social activist and campaigner against acid attacks adorned beautiful lehangas, saaris and gowns. It was a fairy tale moment combined with grief, pride, and inspiration when the scars of battle shined under the yellow light with pride, honour, and beauty. Laxmi Agarwal. took on to deliver a powerful message against this social menace. On combining fashion with cause to bring people's attention Laxmi Agarwal, said, “The construct of beauty is created by us and we are the one's who are captured into it. If the barometer was just the exterior self we wouldn't have been here, walking the ramp. Earlier, people would look down and extend sympathy, but now times are changing we don't need sympathy, we are not victims. People who get scared at looking us are actually scared of looking into themselves. Times are changing and we are changing it.”
'Pallo Latke' girl, Kirti Kharbanda who walked the ramp for Myriad activewear by Suniksha Goenka spoke about her experience in Bombay Times Fashion Week, and said, “You know, Bombay Times, Delhi Times, Bangalore Times are probably the biggest entertaining newspapers. and this is something I have grown up watching, grown up reading it and its so good to be a part of it cause you feel relevant, and you feel really special and they make sure of that. I am grateful to be a part of it.”
The Bappi Dadays of Bollywood came alive when 'Karleo' presented their 'Dream Girl' thematic 70s - 80s inspired collection. Shimmery pants, bold glares, Sequinned metallic skirts, sheer corsets, embroidered dresses in soft pastels and monochrome colours dominated the collection by Karl and Leo. Stunning Surveen Chawla said, “One thing that my fans don't know about me is that I love riding bikes.” She also said, “She would be a kaftan if she was a piece of clothing.” The designer duo said, “She is our muse forever.”
Ravishing Urvashi Rautela walked for Cerez, a shoe and a handbag brand, said, “I am grateful to my fans for loving my work it is the biggest thing for any actor.” For the Indian fashion Industry she said, “One thing I would want them to adopt is some experimentation. I think they should experiment a bit more. I would want nothing to let go of the industry and I love the industry, their style and fashion sense is incomparable.”
Manjiri Phadnis looked ethereal in her fairy white attire and royal jewellery by Rina Dhaka and Poonam Saini. When asked about her work Manjiri said, “I've got a lot coming up for me. My next thing that will be coming up is my short film and apart from that music is coming back to my life.” Talking more about her short film at Bombay Times Fashion Week, Manjiri said, “It's got an interesting cast such as Jackie Shroff, Arjun Bajwa, Neetu Chandra, and myself so a very interesting cast and very light, fun, film.” Speaking for women, she said, “Being a woman is the superpower that we all have.”
Narendra Kumar's ‘Brand New Funk' made the audience groove with peppy music, magical disco, urban quirk couture. The designer said, “Athleisure is the brand new funk. It is like living disco life in 2020.” Angad Bedi, swooned the ramp with his walk and dance to ‘Staying Alive’ at the finale of the second day of fashion week.
Naved Jaffry, Sonalli Sehgal, Salim- Suleman, Pooja Bedi, Vidjut Jamwal, Vidya Marwari, Madhu Shah were in attendance and seen cheering the designers.
