A tea seller's son in Rajasthan's Jaisalmer district has secured the 82nd position in the Civil Services Exam 2017, results for which were declared by the Union Public Services Commission on Friday.

Deshal Dan, 28, a resident of Jaisalmer's Sumerlai village studied at the local village school before joining a higher secondary school in Jaisalmer. Later he went to Kota to attend coaching classes for engineering and got selected for IIIT-Jabalpur.

Deshal, fourth among his five siblings, was earlier selected for the Indian Forest Service but decided to take a crack at the civil services exams and finally cracked them this year, getting selected for the Indian Administrative Services.

Deshal's father, Kushaldan Ratnu was a farmer but since the last couple of years he has been selling tea at the union circle in Jaisalmer city. Deshal's elder brother helps their father at the tea shop, while another is a cattle herder.

One of his brothers who was with the Indian Navy got killed in a naval accident. His younger brother is studying at a Navodaya Vidyalaya.

According to a family member, Deshal's father never went to school and but he not only provided an atmosphere and facilities for his sons' education but also encouraged them to achieve their goals.

"Deshal's father's struggle is the main reason behind his son's success," said Deshal's cousin, Shankar.

"Despite financial constraints to bear the expenses of his son's education, my uncle had hopes that one day his son would fulfill his dream, so he borrowed money on interest for Deshal to complete his education."

On Saturday, after the results were announced, there was celebration in the family, everybody was happy, but Deshal's father was on cloud nine as his son had fulfilled his dream, Shankar said.
