Mumbai, April 25: Nagpur District Football Association emerged champions as they defeated Kolhapur District Football Association 4-3 via the sudden death tie-breaker in the final of the WIFA Inter-District Women Football Championship, hosted by the Nashik DFA on Wednesday.
The final contested between two evenly matched teams finished in an exciting but goalless stalemate. In the ensuing penalty shootout duel the scores were tied 3-all after the first five kicks. Sunita Yadav, Riya Sukhdev and Shraddha Yadav were on target for Nagpur while Kolhapur converted through from their first three attempts through Pratiksha Mitharre, Mrunal Khot and Adhika Bhosale. In the sudden death Akanksha Suryavanshi failed to score for Kolhapur before Annie Anthony successfully scored to help Nagpur to win the match and clinch the top honours.
Results – final: Nagpur DFA 4 (Sunita Yadav, Riya Sukhdev, Shraddha Yadav, Annie Anthony) beat Kolhapur DFA 2 (Pratiksha Mitharre, Mrunal Khot, Adhika Bhosale) via the sudden death.Full-time: 0-0.
