~ The future of the society can be changed by educating youth about their rights, Fraser Scott and Sheena Chauhan shared their thoughts and journey as the youth rights advocates ~
Mumbai, October 30th, 2017: What does the phrase ‘Human Rights’ actually mean? In today’s world of disorder and intolerance, is it possible for the young generation to be the advocates of true rights? How should the youth, who are the future leaders, groom themselves so that they can turn the idealistic dream of universal peace into a reality? Fraser Scott and Sheena Chauhan, representing the organisation ‘Youth for Human Rights International’ tried to answer these delicate issues at the School of Media & Communication (SMC) masterclass at Whistling Woods International (WWI).
Fraser Scott, a writer and art director, who has worked with renowned bands such as Coldplay, Backstreet Boys etc. and Sheena Chauhan, actress, who has worked with national award winning directors and now works as the Ambassador for Human Rights for South Asia conducted an in-depth session starting from the initiation of the concept of Human Rights to how it has evolved in the course of time. An informative AV, depicting the enigmatic story of Human Rights Movements was also screened in this regard.
While interacting with the students, Fraser said, “Though the scenario is brighter in comparison with last two decades, still there is a constant need of education regarding the rights and much more can be achieved in this sector.” As Sheena has placed it correctly, institutions such as WWI are actually ‘home’ of the future leaders. The students, if guided properly in the right direction, can be the true advocates for tolerance and peace. Youth For Human Rights International is working extensively to educate people about their rights. In order to stop the violation of Human Rights, first everyone has to have a clear idea about what their rights are.
The session also included small AVs on critical issues such as different types of discriminations, biases, human trafficking, slavery and freedom of public assembly. While discussing with the students, both Fraser and Sheena clearly specified that all these issues are really pressing in nature and everyone should be well aquainted with their rights regarding all these. But at the same time, they should not misuse their rights and thus get involved with disastrous results. Sheena had put stress on the use of filmmaking as a powerful medium to educate people and thus change the society. She had cited the examples of recent Bollywood films such as PK, Secret Superstar in this regard.
The students were presented with books specifying the rights of the youth in today’s world. The session was concluded with a beautiful music video, depicting the journey of Youth For Human Rights International.
