Yash Savardekar, Ruhi Shingade win badminton singles crowns
Mumbai: Yash Savardekar and Ruhi Shingade bagged the men’s and women’s singles crowns in the Open Above-18 years category badminton event of the inaugural edition of the Ekta World Maharashtra Para Sports, an initiative of Happy Foundation, sponsored by Ekta World and played at the Khar Gymkhana.
In men’s final Yash Savardekar comfortably defeated Mark Dharmai 21-6, while Ruhi Shingade also enjoyed an easy outing defeating Prajakta Rawate 21-7 to emerge champions.
The boys’ under-18 final, quite a good contest before Ayush Somkumar prevailed over Sayyad Zuber 21-11. Pooja Zaveri won the girls’ under-18 title by scoring over Nilam Maurya by a comfortable 21-5 margin.
The inaugural edition of the Maharashtra Para Sports saw over 800 para athletes from all across Maharashtra participating in various sports disciplines. Events are being conducted for Boys and Girls in the Under-12, Under-15, Under-18 and Over-18 age categories in 8 individual and 2 team sports. The para athletes are participating in the following sports disciplines – Badminton, Chess, Carrom, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Swimming and Karate (all individual events) and Box Cricket and Rink Football (team events).
The Maharashtra Para Sports was conducted with the support of the Government of Maharashtra and the Sports Authority of India.
Results: Badminton – Girls’ Under-18: Pooja Zaveri bt Nilam Maurya 21-5.
Open Above-18: Ruhi Shingade bt Prajakta Rawate 21-7.
Boys’ Under-18: Ayush Somkumar bt Sayyad Zuber 21-11.
Open Above-18: Yash Savardekar bt Mark Dharmai 21-6.
