Mumbai, 26th October 2017: As the festival of lights has come to an end, Booking.com the world leader in booking accommodations online with over 1.4 M choices of incredible places to stay, has revealed the most popular accommodation preferences for Indian travellers during the holiday season in the Diwali month.
A surprising trend showed that hostels have increased in popularity this year, indicating a growing propensity among Indians to travel with friends or solo. While traditional accommodations such as hotels, and resorts continue to top the list of accommodations preferred by the majority of Indian travellers, there has also been an increase in the number of homestays booked during the Diwali period, which enables travellers to experience the local culture of a place.
Lodges, Inns, Apartments and Aparthotels are some of the accommodation preferences that have remained common between 2015, 2016 and 2017.
According to Vikas Bhola, Head for the Indian Sub-Continent, Booking.com, “The travel market in India is growing due to increase in consumer spending and incomes. Increasingly, we are seeing that travellers are opting for varied accommodation options such as hostels and homestays which give them a local flavour and the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds.”
