The Akashvani awards were instituted in 1974 to promote professional excellence and bring out the best from the staff working at various radio stations and installations. On 24th December 2019, 44th Akashvani Annual Award function for the year 2016 and 2017 was organised in Rang Bhavan, Broadcasting House, New Delhi. I&B Minister Shri. Prakash Javadekar, Prasar Bharati Chairman Dr A Surya Prakash, Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati and Shri F. Sheheryar, DG, AIR graced the function. During this function three staff members from AIR Pune received the awards.
AIR Pune's Regional News Section achieved 'Best Regional News Section Award'. Shri. Nitin Kelkar (Asst. Director, News Section) received this award. This section has adopted latest technology. Utilized social media like Facebook, Twitter, U Tube etc. to reach the people of every nook of the State. The section has became paperless.
Smt. Tejashri Kamble (Programme Executive) receiver award for 'Best Programme for Women' category. She produced 'O Womaniya' feature based on Right to Pee.
Smt. Shubha Dharmadhikari (Engg. Asst.) was selected as 'Best Woman Engineer'. This award was given to her on the basis of technical work she carried out in AIR Kolhapur. Recently she is transferred to AIR Pune. Her dedication, sincerity and humble nature fetched this award.
