Public broadcaster Prasar Bharati is ramping up its efforts to entertain the people staying home bound across India due to the lockdown with a new channel 'DD Retro' that will air nostalgic programs.

Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekar teased the launch of DD Retro earlier today. Shashi Shekar tweeted, "Coming soon @retrodd". The channel is already airing on DD Free Dish.
DD Retro went on air on DD Free Dish on Wednesday named as Test 505. It was initially airing on DD Free Dish 11551 Vertical transponder. DD Retro was added on LCN 03 yesterday on DD Free Dish with DD Sports being moved to LCN 77. The channel is also available on Dish TV through DD Free Dish at LCN 2008 as Test 505.
DD Retro initially aired bhajans during the test transmission. Prasar Bharati is set to tap into Doordarshan archives for the programming of DD Retro. Mahabharat, old musical shows, bhajans, Ramayan, Mogali among others are likely to be aired on DD Retro.
Union Minister for Textiles and Women & Child Development Smriti Irani requested for the airing of Udaan, Lifeline, and Karamchand.
The channel's tagline is 'Doordarshan's channel for Nostalgia'. It remains to be seen if the DTH operators agree to air the channel on their platforms like they had agreed to air Panini, Kishore Manch and Sharda channels for a period of three months.
