Mumbai FC keen to win and hope to seal Fed Cup place


Mumbai, April 22: Mumbai FC have their task cut out as they prepare to take on Shillong Lajong FC in the penultimate round I-league match at the Cooperage ground on Sunday. The club will now be fighting to play for a much-needed win and move away from the bottom and try to qualify for the Federation Cup and coach Oscar Bruzon told media persons that it was their goal at the moment.
“The match against Shillong is like a final for us. We are working hard and try to sort out our problems. If we can score and win the match it will help us to move out from the bottom. Tomorrow is also our last opportunity to try and seal the 8th position which would clinch a berth in the Federation Cup” the Spanish coach admitted.
The top 8 teams in the I-League qualify for the Federation Cup which is scheduled to commence in the first week of May.
The Mumbai club is currently in the 10th spot with 12 points from 16 games, while Shillong are placed 5th with 24 points.
Mumbai FC’s central defender Pratik Choudhary stated that the team was unperturbed and ready for the match against Shillong. “The mood in the camp is positive and there is only one way for us to go. All depends on how we play tomorrow,” Pratik said.
Coach Bruzon pointed out that some of the foreign players, including skipper Densil Theobald, are carry some niggles and that he would refer them to the physio before taking a call on their inclusion.
Shillong Lajong coach Thangboi Singto is determined to go all out for a win. “This is a very important game for us and we will be giving it our best shot as we want to finish higher in the standing,” said Singto.
Shillong will start without their star Cameroon striker Dipanda Dicka who is recovering from a groin strain. “We will miss Dicka, who has not travelled to Mumbai. But the rest of the team members are fit and we hope to come out with a positive result,” the Shillong coach mentioned.
The match kicks-off at 7.05 pm.
