Akashvani Pune created yet another first of its kind when on the occasion of Braille Day i.e. 4th of Jan. 2018. A visually impaired woman read the morning regional news which is heard all over Maharashtra. Not only Ms.Nirmala Nanda was excited before and after reading the news but hundreds of her visually impaired students too were equally so. With all their focus drawn to their ears, they were eagerly waiting for the AIR beeps at 07.10 AM at their Blind School situated at Pune and their was a burst of cheers as they heard the first sentence of the news coming from Akashvani pune in the voice of their loving Braille Instructor Ms. Nirmala Nanda.
Ms. Nirmala Nanda later shared with the officers of Akashvani Pune that she had lost her sight abruptly while doing her graduation. It was a great shock and even the visit to a specialised hospital at Bangalore yielded no result but then she looked inside herself and called for all the powers, who be, to get invoked within herself, give her strength, so that she does not only withstand the sudden shock but also move ahead with pride and dignity and set examples for many more. Her dream came true today when she read the news from her throat but with the emotions and voices of many visually impaired women and men who looked towards her as a role model.
