Inspiration - Mangesh Survase, the runaway barber who now earns Rs 40 lakh a year.

Hailing from Barshi a small town in Maharashtra, Mangesh comes from a modest family of barbers and was expected to continue in that very line. Spirited, ambitious and adamant, it was only for Mangesh's undying desire to make something big for himself, that made him turn an INR 600 saving per day job to that of INR 40 lakh.

He left his home at the age of 27 and worked in Pune as errand boy in his uncle's barber shop. While scrubbing floors and washing clothes he picked up basic techniques of hair cutting by observing the owner. This sparked an interest in him and he decided to get some formal training in the same business. With INR 15,000 savings in his pocket he moved to Mumbai, where he learnt hair cutting techniques at Javed Habib's Hair Salon Academy, where he excelled a 3month program in just a year and a half. His passion did not go unnoticed. Not only was he absorbed into the academy for a full-time job, he was selected for Tony & Guy's Singapore based advanced hair-dressing program, effectively clocking 7 years in the industry. It was then that he realized that this industry can also have a dignified life.
This sparked the entrepreneurial streak in him. With some of his own savings and a loan from BYST Pune, Mangesh was able to start a salon with his own brand and started his enterprise "Mangeshaz Unisex Salon and Academy". This now has branches in Pune and Bhopal with 5 salons and academies.

The company has scaled up operations employing the franchise model, employing 210 people directly and indirectly. His academy provides scientific and systematic training to the aspirants wishing to pursue a career in cosmetology. So far, the academy has enabled hundreds of students to succeed in the profession of cosmetology and become successful entrepreneurs and professionals. 1200 people have been trained at his academy, out of which nearly a 1000 have got jobs, and 200 have started their own salons. He also sends his staff to Mumbai to attend workshops to enhance their skills.

He has collaborated with the US brand Santhi's for his hair studio and is planning to open one branch in the US by 2019. A staunch believer in re-paying society, he organizes many free training sessions for haircuts and hair treatment for orphaned teenagers in Barshi, to make them self-reliant. He also organizes complimentary seminars on hair cutting for women as he wishes to empower the community. He also shares his experience on various forums to potential entrepreneurs and motivates them to start their own business.
