He was never ever related to running in his earlier life, till three years ago and was known mostly as an engineering employee's association leader from Trivandrum. He had been a chronic allergy patient from his younger days and regularly on medication and steroid sprays for his allergy treatment. Six years ago, as his breathing problem worsened, the doctors had advised a surgery, which went fatal due to blood infection. With septic shock caused cardiac arrest (no blood pressure and pulse), he was on ventilator for thirteen hours, and miraculously survived from death, with less body weight of 18kg and in a very frail conditionWhen he was posted at AIR Tirunelveli in 2015, he slowly started running to relieve his breathing problem. As his breathing improved, he slowly increased the distance and felt very comfortable. One day, when he was running at Trivandrum, met with Trivandrum Runners Club members and, who in turned his short distance running into long distance running and marathons.
His first timed run was the half marathon (21.1Km) run at Trivandrum marathon on 8th of Nov 2015, which he finished in 2 hours thirteen minutes, brought him immense confidence and never looked back. Followed by this run, he took part in 10 half marathon in different cities, including Trivandrum, Kochi, Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai and bettered his time. In November 2016, he joined at AIR Ooty and started hill running too. In 2017, he graduated into full marathon (42.2Km) by running IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon on 25.02.17 and finished in a wonderful timing of 4 hours eight minutes. Again on 20th Aug 2017 finished Airtel Hyderabad Full Marathon and in 16th Nov 2017 participated in Spice Coast Full Marathon, Kochi. In Jan 26th 2018, he participated in the standard Chartered Dubai Marathon, finished the full marathon in 4hours 11 minutes. Last month, on October 13th he finished his first Ultra trail marathon of 80 km distance on an elevation of 3600 meters through forest route in the Malnad Ultra ( The toughest Ultra) with a timing of 13.45 minutes.
He is a winner of plank challenge competition (earlier 10 minutes of elbow plank, now up to 30 minutes), where the body core strength is being challenged. He is a cyclist and participating in cycling Championships, also trying to better his swimming skills, so that he would become a tri athlete, and participate in Iron Man Triathlon (3.8 km of swim, 180 km of cycling and 42.2 km of run). AIR Ooty wishes him all success in his future ventures. He is an inspiration to all of us. In spite of crossing 50 years of age he is still going strong and stays healthy. Most of us have already crossed 50 years of age, we must give top priority to our fitness level which will not only improve our efficiency at the work spot as well as to handle age related problems with ease.
