Mahatma Gandhi – the father of the Nation has been the epitome of truth and non-violence. The entire world acknowledges him as an exemplary instance of humanism. Beyond barriers of nations, caste, creed, religion, colour or region, he was the one who stood upright for peace. An apostle of peace, his thought has been revered as a philosophy in itself.
On his Centenary year, way back in 1969, All India Radio, Cuttack had produced a series of 12 featurized programmes of 15-minutes duration each aired every last Friday of a month, spread over the entire year. The author of the serial entitled 'Bapu', was the legendary Surendra Mohanty and the serial was produced by the then Producer, veteran playwright and dramatist Manoranjan Das.
On his 150th Birth Anniversary starting on the 2nd October, 2018 All India Radio, Cuttack is proud to offer a tribute to the great soul in the best possible manner. This time AIR, Cuttack has come up with a bouquet of plays based on the life and times of Gandhiji. The project is entitled 'MAHATMA'. Renowned artists of AIR, Cuttack shall be participating in these plays of 30 minutes duration each. The programmes will be aired in the State Hook up, every Tuesday at 8.30 in the morning, starting 2nd October, 2018.
A project of this magnitude, shall be one of the first of its kind, and as such finds its place in the National Calendar of programmes. The author and producer of this prestigious production is Tarunkanti Rout, Head of Programme, AIR, Cuttack.
