Radio Kashmir Jammu organised a Classical Music Concert - "RAAG DARBAAR".



From the thrill of a note, to the rustling of leaves , to the passion that lies deep within the soul - music can only be the true medicine. Trends, fashions, culture have progressed and formed through music. Akashvani is the organization that is spreading the incredible and amazing power of music in society and also helps in preserving and proliferation of this age old tradition. The niche audience of Jammu was mesmerized by the soulful performances in the Classical Music Concert - "RAAG DARBAAR"- originally planned in connection with Independence Day Celebrations and held on 19th of September 2019 at jam packed Auditorium of Govt. Collerge for Women, Parade, Jammu. The event featured performances of renowned National and local artistes. The audience was left spellbound as the leading Flutist of today's generation and senior disciple of the legendry Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Santosh Sant alongwith best performers of Jammu Naveen Sharma (Vocal) and Mayank Raina (Sitar) gave a clinical display of their talent in the concert that lasted for about two hours.

The concert was set into motion with lighting of the ceremonial lamp which was followed by formal welcome of those present bt the Prog. Head Radio Kashmir Jammu Smt. Renu Raina.

The event began with a Patriotic chorus paying obescience to the motherland followed by an impressive performance on Sitar by promising young artist Mayank Raina who presented Raag Megh comprising of Alaap, Jod and Jhalla. The Madhya Laya bandish and Drut was set to Teen Taal. Naveen Sharma's fascinating vocal performance then came up with Bada Khayal and Chhota Khayal with bandish – "Balma na jani preet ki reet…" and "Mori laaj rakho Girdhari…" respectively. Hailing from a musician's family from Gwalior and recipient of "Abhinav Kala Samman", "Surmani" and "Venu-Shree" titles, Santosh Sant captured the audience with his spellbound performance on flute with such finesse that everyone was forced to give them a splendid ovation once he finished his performance. He presented Raag Vridabani Sarang with Vilanbit Rachna set in Mat Taal and two Drut bandish in Teen Taal and concluded with folk dhun in Mishr-maand. 

The hall was witness to the presence of large number of music lovers cutting across cross section of society including large number of youth pursuing their academics in the field of classical music as also others who enjoyed the musical event.

Living up to the high traditions of presentation, Radio Kashmir Jammu left no stone unturned for presentation of a truly professional concert and the audience fully acknowledged the vote of thanks by Sh. K.K.Lidhoo, Programme Executive. The proceedings of the sammelan were ably conducted by Sh. Raj Kumar Sharma. The whole event was co-ordinated by Sh. Rajesh Gupta, Programme Executive and the compositions were ably managed by Sh. Sami Feroz, Staff Artist who also accompanied the instrumentalists with his brilliant Tabla performance. Other accompanists also included Purshotam Kumar (Tabla) and Gauri Shankar (Harmonium).

The event "Raag Darbaar" was aimed at showcasing the essence of Classical Music through the compositional variety of various genres in different ragas and taals so that they do not fade away into oblivion.

The concert was part of series of programmes planned under Special Programming for J&K and spread throughout the year in various formats.
