Shri. K.G.Jayan, Who hails from Kottayam, Kerala is born in 1934. He started the musical training at the young age of 6 along with his brother, under the tutelage of Raman Bhagavathar and later on from Mavelikkara Radhakrishna Iyer. To further his musical education, he joined the prestigious Sree Swathi Thirunal Academy from where he received "Ganabhooshanam" diploma in first class after 4 years.
A delightful concert in the palace of Sree Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma moved the Maharaja to the extent that he encouraged Jayan to go for advanced musical studies. After a year of studies with the Alathoor Brother's, Jayan took up "Gurukula Vasam" with Padmasree Balamurali Krishna for 5 years. Jayan directed several devotional songs for musicians like Shri K.J. Yesudas, T.M.Soundhara Rajan, S.P. Balasubrahmaniam, P.Jayachandran, S. Janaki, P. leela, Chithra, Sujatha, Veugopal, P. Susheela, Unnikrishnan, Radhika Thilak, Unnimenon and Shri Balamurali Krishna. Jayan also directed songs in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu and recorded at HMV recording company. Jayan's musical ability reached perfection while he was a disciple of legendary Padmavibhooshan Shri. Chembai Vaidhyanatha Bhagavathar. He performed concerts all over India with his guru Shri Chembai. During this period he directed about 30 Malayalam and Tamil film songs.
Now as the only disciple and Torchbearer of Shri Chembai he has made a name for himself by performing concerts in various sangeetha sabas and temple along with famous South Indian Pakka Vadhyam. HMV produced his LP Album with the legendary Mridangam Vidhwan "Palakkat Mani Iyer", Dr. L. Subrahmaniam in Violin, E.M. Subrahmaniam in Ghatam. HMV also produced his Carnatic Music album with his famous Thakil Vidhwan Valamkiman Shanmugha Sundharam Pillai. Jayan received many titles namely, "Kalaratnam", "Ayyappa Ganajyothi", "Nadha kalanithi", "Nallisai Mamali", "Bhakthi Sangeetha Samrat", "Sugalaya Sangeetha" award in London and recipient of "Sangeetha Nataka Academy" award in 1991 from the Govt. of Kerala. In addition Jayan has received many "ponnadas" (Golden Shawl) from various temples, and concerts. Most notable among them are the ones he received from Guruvayoor Temple. This talented musician have toured many countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Gulf Countries, USA(Chicago, Washington DC, Philadelpia, North Carolina, New Jersey, Indiana, Pittsburg), Ottawa in Canada, London etc.
